Most teams open the tool first. That feels productive. It also locks you into whatever schema the vendor labeled “source of truth” last quarter.
Start with the contract schedule instead. List every sync obligation as a row: who sends, who receives, how often, what constitutes lateness, and what happens when keys collide. Only then translate rows into fields the app can see.
We teach a three-column sketch in Contract Sync Audit Mastery: obligation, observable signal, and blind spot. Blind spots are not failures—they are reminders to schedule confirmations outside the app.
Silent nulls, delayed cancellations, and “business day” definitions that differ between legal and ops create most false positives we see in Hong Kong engagements. Name those definitions before you sample.
When you finally open the app, your pulls become tests of a hypothesis, not fishing expeditions. That is the difference between a tidy finding and a week of apologetic emails.
